The door to Eternity

This door awaits everyone at the end of life.    The desitnation of the door can only be changed before the door is opened by the death of the body.

The death of a neighbor, a friend, or a loved one brings us face to face with eternity. We dare not honor the life and death of another without being reminded of the fact that we, too, will die.

The Bible teaches us that death is a kind of door leading to eternity. There is much that is mysterious about eternity, and there are some important lessons concerning the relationship between life now and life in eternity that we must understand.

The subject is one, which we must never approach without the Bible in our hands. The moment we depart from "God's written Word," in considering eternity and the future state of man, we are then likely to fall into error. In examining points like these we must have nothing to do with preconceived notions as to what God's character is like, and what we think God ought to be, or ought to do with man after death. We only have to find out what is written.

The Bible clearly teaches that what we are when we die, whether converted or unconverted, whether believers or unbelievers, whether godly or ungodly, so we will be when we enter through the door to eternity.

There is no repentance in the grave: there is no conversion after the last breath is drawn. Now is the time to believe in Christ, and to lay hold of eternal life.

Now is the time to turn to God for forgivness, and to make our salvation sure. If we leave this world refusing to repent and believe, we will rise in the same condition on Judgment Day.

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
- Revelation 20:15

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. - Revelation 21:8

These Scriptures are a warning to the unsaved, many who have heard the Gospel message and chose to "put it off", that their day of reckoning is coming.

simply because they chose NOT to believe Jesus.

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. - John 3:36

Yes, this same whosoever who, before the death ushered the soul onto eterinity, could have called upon the name of the Lord for salvation.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. - Romans 10;13

The Lord has promised to save all who would call on Him for salvation.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. - 2 Peter 3:9

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. - Romans 6:23

Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. - John 10:7
